Resume

Alf van Rensburg is a Senior Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in HV/LV power systems, mining infrastructure, heavy industry, fixed plant, automation, PLC/SCADA, operational technology and asset reliability.

His career spans mining, ports, smelting, steelmaking, heavy minerals, precious metals recovery, catalyst recycling, transportation infrastructure and standalone renewable power systems. He has worked across both operating sites and consulting environments, delivering practical engineering outcomes where safety, reliability, maintainability and production continuity are critical.

Alf’s technical experience includes substations, transformers, switchgear, motor control centres, protection systems, variable speed drives, conveyors, crushers, fans, pumps, hoists, winders, PLC/SCADA systems, manufacturing information systems, commissioning support, arc flash, load studies and electrical network upgrades.

He has held senior engineering, reliability, automation, consulting, project management and project controls roles across Australia, South Africa and the United States. His work has included major transformer replacements in underground mines, fume fan drive upgrades in smelting operations, site-wide PLC/SCADA migrations, electric arc furnace automation, continuous caster breakout prevention, and plant-to-business information systems integration.

Alf approaches engineering from first principles, with a strong systems view. His focus is on practical industrial improvement: making complex plant safer, more reliable, more visible and more productive through sound electrical engineering, automation, data, reliability thinking and disciplined execution.
